HISTORICAL INTEREST

CORRIDONIA AND SAN CLAUDIO:
San Claudio hotel is located in Corridonia, in the San Claudio hamlet: a small gem in the heart of Macerata province. Next to the hotel, you can find the homonym Romanic abbey, the San Claudio al Chienti abbey. Born in the XI century, it is one of the main and most ancient proofs o the Romanic architecture in the Marche. It is still intact as it was originally and it can still be visited: this must be on the bucket list of every history lovers and historian!

Only 5 km away, you can find Macerata historical centre. The town is one of Marche’s provincial capitals and boast lots of places of interest:

– Churches: the main one is San Giuliano cathedral, born in the VXI century in a neoclassical style. Its peculiarity is due to the contrast between the plain façade – still incomplete – and the sumptuous interior by the architect Cosimo Morelli.
– The theatres, among which the Lauro Rossi theatre and the well-known Sferisterio. The latter is an outdoor opera house, which is known for its great acoustics and its unique architecture. – The beautiful squares, piazza della Libertà and piazza Mazzini, where the weekly market takes place on Wednesdays.
– The archaeological area Helvia Recina, in the Villa Potenza hamlet, where the ruins of the ancient Romanic town can still be visited.
